Please don't confuse arrogance with care. There are some parts of this dish
which are best stirred slowly.

Speaking for myself, I want to be sure that adding some fundamental
features doesn't make a hotch-potch of individually cool features but a
whole which is confused and inconsistent. After all, this thread was
started by someone, not a committer, questioning why Ant has if/unless
attributes at all. You can't please everyone. What may seem cool and
obvious to you may not be to someone else. As an example, there was a fair
amount of negative reaction to just deprecating all the old <filecopy> et
al tasks even though that was the right thing to do.

Conditional processing within Ant, today, is already a hotch-potch to some
extent so a little care is advised.
