  I can partly confirm this. Does work in Ant 1.2 as described in the original 
  description, but can not reproduce in Ant 1.1. 
  Ant just appends the value contained in basedir to the current directory and

! Properties won't be resolved in any attribute of project or target.

! The preferred way to alter the basedir from the command line is to not specify a
