This is what I had to do -

	MSVSSGET vssGet = (MSVSSGET)project.createTask("vssget");
	vssGet.setSsdir(m_vssPath);
	vssGet.setVsspath(vssFolder+"/"+dir+"/"+fileToGet);
	vssGet.setVersion(version);	
	vssGet.setLogin(m_vssLogin);	
	vssGet.setLocalpath(new Path(project,localPath+"/"+dir));
	vssGet.setDescription("Read file and do VSSGET");
	vssGet.execute();

You could use project.createTask("vssget"); and the project should care
about this.
