I don't think I follow you on this. A task should throw a
BuildException if something prevents it from working. All other cases
can and should IMHO be handled with warning messages but no exception
at all.

If the task isn't crucial for your build process, why should it be in
a target other targets depend on?

I guess I need an example to understand this.
