Subject Re: Issue adding new nodes to existing cluster
Date Fri, 10 Mar 2017 19:15:07 GMT
Hi Tyler, Ambari will only use /tmp if it can't come up with a better location to use. In this
case, these files are owned by the server, so it's preferable to store them in /var/run/ambari-server

Thanks,
Alejandro

If that workflow needs to write a temporary file, then why not use the /tmp directory so that
it doesn't matter which user ambari is run as? The other option is to make sure /var/run/ambari-server
is owned by the user before starting up. Still sounds like a bug that needs to be fixed.

Hi Tyler, you can either run ambari as root, or configure an ambari-user (defaults to ambari-qa).
That would explain the error with permissions if running as non-root.

Thanks,
Alejandro

Actually, I was mistaken. I was running that on another host (guess I should check what server
I'm on better). Once I changed the rights it ran fine. Is this a bug with configuring ambari-server
to run as a non-root user?

I am getting an error - see below. The /var/run/ambari-server directory was owned by root
with ambari-server running as ambari, so I ran "chown ambari:ambari /var/run/ambari-server"
and its still throwing the error. Even if I create the directory its complaining about the
error still happens. This shows up in the logs at the exact time I go from step2 to step3.

Subject: Issue adding new nodes to existing cluster

When trying to add new nodes to an existing cluster, the next button on step 3 (endpoint is
/#/main/host/add/step3) is disabled. Any ideas why? I've tried restarting the server. None
of the the configurations are out of date and none of the checks that are alerting on the
previous step are significant since all the other nodes in my cluster installed with them.
