Subject RE: Install/Configure Storm cluster without HDP?
Date Tue, 03 Feb 2015 19:07:16 GMT
Hi Srimanth and all,

Thanks very much for the info, which is exactly what I want to know and create my own non-HDP
stack. After reading the Wiki, I have a couple more questions:

1. To create a new stack (non-HDP, such as “MyStack”), I need to create a new stack
sub-folder “MyStack”, under /var/lib/ambari-server/resources/stacks. Then under that
“MyStack/1.0” sub-folder, I understand a structure needs to create to define this new
stack, like:

· Some files: metainfo.xml, role_command_order.json, role.json

· Some sub-folders: configuration, repos, services

But among those, what are the required file(s) and sub-folder(s), and which files/sub-folders
are optional?

2. What do the files role.json and role_command_order.json do?

If there is a “Create a new Stack” example and more details on Stack structure /definition
(what does each file / sub-folder do) to share, that will be more helpful.

Hi Tao,

You can create your own stacks (non-HDP) and customize services supported in those stacks.
You can learn more about how Ambari loads stacks and services in the wiki page -.

I’d like to use Ambari to install a non-HDP cluster, just install some services, like zookeeper,
Storm, Kafka, to deploy/manage my own Storm cluster, without installing HDP. Currently, with
Ambari v1.7, seems like I have to choose to install one of HDP versions first when installing
a cluster.

I am wondering if Ambari only supports HDP cluster or there is a way to set up Storm cluster
without installing HDP?
