The following two options should be turned on by default when HBase is installed:

dfs.datanode.synconclose=true - this is to avoid data loss and guarantee HDFS correctness.
By default, HDFS does not fsync file on close.
​dfs.datanode.sync.behind.writes=true - sync partial blocks to disk, always *must* when
sync-on-close is on for performance.
