Hank Jakiela commented on AMBARI-5973:
--------------------------------------

A host check is less scary. The pseudo-code in the description looks like it just disables
huge pages without asking, and with no consideration of the amount of memory in the machine.

The message to the user should not just recommend turning off huge pages. Many users will
just just follow your recommendations, which could do them more harm than good.

I'm still curious about the performance problem and the amount of memory.

> We need to add checks for Transparent Huge Page. With it enabled, we have
> pretty horrible performance, and it's enabled by default on RHEL.

> What we need to do pseudo code:
> if (`cat /sys/kernel/mm/redhat_transparent_hugepage/enabled` != 'never'); then
> echo never > /sys/kernel/mm/redhat_transparent_hugepage/enabled
> end
> We need to add a check, and then add the 'echo never' to the python script.
