For #3, I'm using a Spring JmsTemplate:
This is Groovy sample code for a selector...

        String documentIdFieldName = DocumentConversionMessage.DOCUMENT_ID
        String selector = "$documentIdFieldName='$documentId'"
        Message jmsMessage = jmsTemplate.receiveSelected(destination,
selector)
        return DocumentConversionMessage.fromJmsMessage(jmsMessage)
