Subject Multiple/dynamically allocated MQ servers on same host
Date Tue, 17 Nov 2009 15:46:18 GMT

Is it possible to run multiple ActiveMQ servers on the same host? Are there
any issues associated with spinning up additional ActiveMQ servers on
demand? How about load balancing a population of ActiveMQ servers running
on a cloud?

I'd like to support 150k+ clients with overlapping 'interests', presumably
one ActiveMQ server for each 'interest' group (potentially as many as 30k+
interests, though only about 300 really active ones). Assuming
multiple/dynamic instances of ActiveMQ servers are possible, I will need to
balance computing load by colocating (and relocating) ActiveMQ servers for
less popular topics, e.g. many more clients subscribed to say Google than
horticulture, so servers for less popular topics, e.g. horticulture and
'shoe fetish' can be migrated to the same machine. Need to understand
overhead associated with each instance because machines hosting the ActiveMQ
instances have finite resources.

I look forward to your comments/feedback.

Thanks, Mike
