Subject killing the broker also kills clients on the local machine

Does anybody know why or how this happens.

If both the message broker and one of the clients are running on the same machine when the
broker is killed the client will also terminate.

If the client is running on a different host the client behaves as expected by reconnecting
as soon as the broker is brought back online.
