If ActiveMQ is embedded in the Tomcat process and you have
applications running in the same Tomcat process, they won't need to
use the network unless you expose transports for others to connect. As
for better performance, I'm not sure if ActiveMQ's performance will
necessarily be better because it depends on what you're trying to
achieve. But the clients certainly will perform better if they're not
using the network stack to connect (i.e., local calls are always
faster than those going thru a network stack).
