Ok, I have isolated it to the bootclasspath. I am adding my own log
formatter which is why I have to set the bootclasspath. I do add the
rt.jar to it as well. Now we have other applications that run under
tomcat with this bootclasspath. Question is, what is it in activemq that
doesn't like it?

Are you talking about ServerSocketFactory? Isn't is part of the SDK?
