Subject Performance enchancements on 1.5.0 + Artemis-743 Was: [VOTE] Apache Artemis 1.5.0
Date Fri, 04 Nov 2016 12:52:42 GMT
forking the discussion thread as the previous was for the vote

- Openwire was missing OperationContext implementation
- libaio is now calling fdatasync

Before this change, based on the documentation you would need to
disable write-cache to have syncs on the disk being performed
promptly. We now call fdatasync after the writes are done.

If you want to just rely on the OS write-cache as before, you could
turn of journal-sync.

I also forgot to mention the performance enhancements done at 1.5.0:

- Less threads consumed.
- Less re-encoding of the message on the server (you need to update
the client for taking effect)
- Less contention on the journal

These last two changes was the reason why I delayed the release for a
week based on my previous headsup.

@Fabio why don't you give the release a spin and give you +1 or -1
depending on what you see.
