Richard, as a start could you let us know what the JDBC driver name is? 

e.g.

{code}
connection = ...
connection.getMetaData().getDriverName()
{code}

Also what is the closest JDBC language to it? i.e. whats the most efficient way of dealing
with BLOBs via JDBC - using getBytes()? Or streams/blobs?
