Christopher Tubbs commented on ACCUMULO-4171:
---------------------------------------------
Of the options, I think it'd be better to bump our version with Hadoop updates. But, I think
that by doing so, we should also bump our Hadoop version, and recommend newer Hadoop for newer
Accumulo versions. That'd be a short-term thing. Long-term, I think we really do want to convince
Hadoop to be more careful about bumping their dependencies when the dependencies aren't compatible...
and I think we want to try to convince the HTrace community to at least have some strong API
guarantees, like Semver. I think both of those things will not only help us, but will help
their larger communities of users as well.
And, of those two long-term actions, I think convincing HTrace to adopt Semver or some other
strong API guarantees, is most important... in particular because Hadoop has already suffered
from using really old dependencies, and I wouldn't want to encourage them to be even more
reluctant to bump them.

> We are currently using HTrace 3.1.0-incubating. There were some API changes and improvements
on the way to HTrace 4.x-incubating, and we should stay up to date with those changes.
> Currently you can extend Accumulo tracing down into HDFS if you're using Accumulo 1.7
and Hadoop 2.7. This ticket is for continuing to make that work for versions of Hadoop >
2.7.
