Subject [jira] [Commented] (ACCUMULO-4181) Log spam regarding swappiness
Date Thu, 07 Apr 2016 16:49:25 GMT

Josh Elser commented on ACCUMULO-4181:

bq. and I just realized that that was probably from rollup renaming and not created timestamp.
My bad.

No worries. I just wanted to make double check after I glanced at the code :)

bq. I wanted to look at the logs because the monitor kills my vms with high cpu usage, and
all I saw was this message over and over.

Gotcha. The property I was considering adding would come with a big-fat warning of "you better
know why you're turning this off". Close to a "void your warranty" -- you'd be unlikely to
get help from devs if you had JVM pause issues without swappiness being set <10 :)

bq. I can take a look for a patch.

Cool. That'd be awesome. I'd recommend adding a conditional check to {{server/base/src/main/java/org/apache/accumulo/server/}}
in {{monitorSwappiness}} to check the configuration for a new property (defined in {{./core/src/main/java/org/apache/accumulo/core/conf/}})
and only run the check if the property value is "true". Doing it inside the check allows you
to dynamically update the configuration (you can switch this value on the fly) and avoid the
need for a restart.
