I think I missed this point of this comment. I thought you were saying that we could use logger
as a bridge to support our .out/.err files _as well as_ support writing to syslog. Replacing
the out/err files is not the intent of this change, and, as such, I do not intend to do it.

This makes it more difficult to debug failures if you have something like puppet or supervisord
ensuring that your processes are always running. We should figure out how to roll the files
instead.
