Subject [jira] [Commented] (ACCUMULO-2287) Logs are overwritten upon restart
Date Mon, 22 Jun 2015 18:09:02 GMT

Christopher Tubbs commented on ACCUMULO-2287:

I'm a fan of the decoupling ssh from the launch scripts, but I really don't think we should
be implementing our own log rotation for service logging stuff. I'd very strongly prefer we
use the POSIX logger and let the syslogd, journald, or equivalent deal with log management
for anything outside of the log4j logs (which should be very minimal). For everything else
which is logged by our log4j/slf4j logging, that should all be managed by user configuration.
We really shouldn't have much to do for logging in our scripts.

This makes it more difficult to debug failures if you have something like puppet or supervisord
ensuring that your processes are always running. We should figure out how to roll the files
