Sean Busbey commented on ACCUMULO-3594:
---------------------------------------

All Avro makes use of a Schema that describes what the data looks like. You can optionally
use this Schema to generate language-specific serialization classes just for said Schema.

Alternatively, Avro has a library they refer to as "generic serialization" that allows you
handle serialization using only the Schema and avro-provided library classes.

The Avro "getting started" guide covers the two, though it starts with the version that does
code generation:

> We have a number of writable classes, some of which are non-trivial and serialized in
tables or files:
> * {{org.apache.accumulo.core.tabletserver.log.LogEntry}}
> * {{org.apache.accumulo.core.metadata.schema.DataFileValue}}
> * {{org.apache.accumulo.server.master.state.TServerInstance}}
> Consider converting this (and possibly others) to better message classes to easily add
more functionality in the future.
