Subject [jira] [Resolved] (ACCUMULO-1363) Investigate Leveraging commons-daemon for launching services
Date Fri, 18 Jul 2014 03:13:05 GMT

Mike Drob resolved ACCUMULO-1363.

       Resolution: Won't Fix
    Fix Version/s: (was: 1.7.0)

Since we no longer provide RPM/DEB packages, it doesn't make sense to provide these either.

> Leveraging commons-daemon means better user experience. commons-daemon is baked into
the distribution of RHEL and CentOs since at least as far back as version 5 (as jakarta-commons-daemon),
and in Fedora (as apache-commons-daemon) as far back as at least 12. I'm guessing it's been
around in Ubuntu for awhile too.
> If commons-daemon allows us to simplify per-node startup, shutdown, and service monitoring,
we might want to leverage it in our packaging to make it easy for users to deploy and run
