[~elserj] do you know that spawning processes is whats making MAC slow?  I am sure thats part
of it, but is it the largest contributor?  For example the interaction between master, root
table and metadata table inorder to get first user tablet online could possibly be much slower
than spawning processes.  

I looked into this type of thing a long time ago, but can not remember much.   ACCUMULO-879
are an example of problems that have nothing to do w/ separate processes.
