Subject [jira] [Commented] (ACCUMULO-1403) setiter fails when given a sortedkeyvalueiterator
Date Fri, 10 May 2013 16:33:17 GMT

Billie Rinaldi commented on ACCUMULO-1403:

The problem is that if the iterator requires options, you'll end up with a
failure later on the server side. We can't guarantee users will understand
this. Is using config too difficult? Would it help if we printed out the
config commands you would need? Or how about a prompt: "This iterator does
not implement OptionDescriber so its options cannot be set through the
shell. If the iterator requires options it is recommended that you set
them manually with config before using setiter. Continue (y/n)?"

If you use setiter first, you could see errors between the time the command
succeeds and you configure the options.

> When providing a class that implements SortedKeyValueIterator, but not OptionDescriber,
to setiter, the command fails.
> For example, the following command fails:
> {noformat}
> setiter -class org.apache.accumulo.core.iterators.ColumnFamilyCounter -p 1
> {noformat}
> More reasonable behaviour might be to set the iterator without needing the user to input
extra options.
