Keith Turner commented on ACCUMULO-1364:
----------------------------------------

bq. My open question is whether we should hold the release of 1.5.0 until we can diagnose

At this point it seems like the issue has not been reproduced? This seems like the first
step to diagnosing. If a release candidate went out right now, there would be 72 hours to
vote no if this issue can be reproduced and/or diagnosed. To me it seems like we can continue
working twoards a 1.5.0 release and trying to reproduce this concurrently. I am thinking
of an optimistic locking approach.

In the worst case this is an Accumulo problem and 1.5.0 is released, it can be fixed in 1.5.1.
Otherwise an HDFS ticket would need to be opened. A lot of testing has been done against
1.5-SNAPSHOT and a lot of bugs found. 1.5.0 needs to be released, users will find more bugs,
and 1.5.1 will be released.

> We were doing some testing on an Accumulo snapshot using continuous ingest when the power
went out. When it came back we noticed some corrupt blocks in HDFS, mostly around the WAL.
I wasn't certain if that was a happenstance of how the sync blocks can turn out, so I went
ahead and started Accumulo to see if it could handle it. What I got wasn't what I expected.
> There are 0 errors reported on the monitor. It just sits with 5 tservers available and
no tablets online. The master appears it attempted to assign and then is waiting for the walog
to close, which never happens-
