Keith Turner commented on ACCUMULO-1335:
----------------------------------------

[~sonixbp] I just got a chance to look at your 2nd patch, it was nice thanks. I just committed
the following changes.

 * return thrift connections in a finally block
 * do not retry on TApplicationException (extends TException) ... thrift will throw this if
the server side code throws an unexpected Exception like a NPE.. not sure, but I think if
a TException is thrown on the server side it will result in a TApplicationException on the
client side... I should test that, because thats what I am expecting in the change I made
 * retry on TTransportException, this indicates a I/O error
 * moved the thrift calls from TabletServer to ClientServiceHandler .. there is not a great
reason for this, it was just easier to reuse some existing code on the client side that randomly
picks a tablet server. ClientServiceHandler exist for historical reasons. It used to be
that the master or tablet server would service those methods. Then at some point we decided
not burden the master w/ those methods.
 * checked if the user can read the tables in a more standard way.
 * One of the test you added went directly against the tablet server thrift API. I moved this
to go against client API, because that seemed to test more code. Was there a specific reason
for going straight to the tablet server?

> The du command that is available in the shell would be useful to have available in the
java API (e.g. through connector.instanceOperations() for example). It seems to be quite difficult
to recreate this value without the shell.
