I had an instance that was initialized and running prior to the security upgrades, and tried to start Accumulo with the latest trunk, but it failed to start. I think Accumulo should start, and interpret old configuration without failing (though, with a warning, if something has changed), and should seamlessly perform upgrades to zookeeper and hdfs stored state.
