Mike Drob commented on ACCUMULO-1011:
-------------------------------------

I'm not sure that will work.

Let's say I have an automated process that adds a splits for the next day at midnight. I would
need to change my process to set threshold = 0, add splits, wait a little bit, and then set
threshold > 0.

This adds a lot of overhead and a lot more places where something can go wrong. My main concern
is ending up with a table that has a bunch of data in a single tablet. That situation is something
that is both hard to diagnose and potentially expensive to recover from.

> Establish a small size configuration parameter, and have the master coordinate a merge
if the tablet size falls below this value.
