    Hrm, that's worrisome :)
    
    Have you been able to test this change on a real system with this hypothetical iterator-which-creates-threads
and verify that the issue you saw before is no longer happening? What do you feel like is
an appropriate gate to determine the "correctness" of your change? 
    
    Presently, my gate is "Keith Turner", but that's mostly because I know he is much more
familiar with this area of the codebase than I am, but your opinions would also be worthwhile
since you have spent a bit of time in here now.
