In some instances the startup script construct complex command and use ssh to execute it w/ escaping.  Seems like it might be nicer in some cases to have a script that executes that complex command and have ssh execute that.  The drawback of this is more scripts.  Probably would want to put these helper scripts somewhere besides bin, to avoid pollution.
