This isn't a suffix wildcard for a search, it's a wildcard for how the data is grouped in
an RFile.  It might be a good exercise to try to find a use case for it, though.  I started
thinking about a case where you have two pieces of information in the family, e.g. "snake"
+ "reptile", where "\*reptile" would be the suffix used to create the locality group.  However,
I can't think of a good reason not to use "reptile" + "snake" with a prefix wildcard of "reptile\*"
