Shouldn't the fact that a WeakHashMap is used keep it from causing a memory leak?

I can certainly see the thread safety bit being an issue though, but that seems pretty simple
to fix.

(Note, I'm assuming we're talking about the ExtensionFactoryMap's wrappers Map, although I
could be totally missing the point here...)
