FWIW, I think we should merge the Maven fixes first, but in more
general terms I think it probably makes sense to float the idea of
rolling a release on the list before actually creating new branches
and rolling release artifacts begins...  It's quite possible that
someone could have been working on some bug fixes they wanted to get
in first.
